4 to be inducted into Helias Hall of Fame

Helias Catholic High School and the Foundation for the Benefit of Helias Catholic High School will induct four people into the Helias Hall of Fame at the Legacy Celebration gala, scheduled Feb. 29 at Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.

Helias Hall of Fame honorees must have graduated at least 20 years prior to induction, demonstrated loyalty and service to Helias, distinguished themselves in a chosen field, and have exhibited moral standards to the credit of the school.

This year's honorees are Joyce E. Amick, John D. Bryan, Louis H. Vetter and Jeremy Winegar.

Joyce E. Amick

Joyce Amick is the daughter of Donald J. and Alice L. Schell. She is married to Dale Amick. They have four children: Christopher J. Amick (Kathleen), John W. Amick (Melissa), Matthew J. Amick (Kate) and Brian J. Amick. Joyce and Dale have five grandchildren.

She graduated from Helias Catholic High School in 1968. She attended the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas, from 1968-70 and earned her bachelor of science in elementary education in 1972 from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Joyce began her employment as a teacher with St. Stanislaus School from 1972-74, followed by an admissions clerk position with Lincoln University in 1974-75. She has worked as an assistant with Dale A. Amick and Associates since 2000.

Joyce is a member of St. Peter Parish in Jefferson City, where she has served on the parish council (president in 1999), past president of the Home and School Association, past director of the Confirmation Team, and CRHP 2009-10. She has sung in the parish choir since 1991; has been a Eucharistic minister since 2000; has been a perpetual adoration participant since 1996; and has been a member of the Ladies' Sodality, Card Party as chairman, and Welcoming Committee. Her community involvement includes being a St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary member, Interparish Guadalupe Circle member and current president, American Heart Association neighborhood collector, and a University of Missouri Extension Homemakers member from 1980-95.

Joyce's involvement with Helias Catholic High School includes being a Mother's Club member and past president, Project Graduation Committee member for several years, Golden Gala Committee member, Class of 1968 representative, and 50th Class Reunion chairman in 2018. Joyce has given numerous hours over many years to the Helias Foundation during Annual Fund Drive time.

John D. Bryan

John Bryan is the son of Wilda Lee and David Lee Bryan. He has two children: Grant Alexander Bryan and Rachel Lee Bryan.

He graduated from Jefferson City Senior High School in 1975. He earned his bachelor of science in economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Upon graduation, John moved to Dallas, Texas, where he worked for United Technologies building semiconductors. Currently, he is executive director of Missouri Poultry Federation, where he has worked for the last 20 years. John handles the daily operations in the state and is the federation's chief Missouri lobbyist, updating Missouri legislators and regulators of happenings in Missouri's poultry industry.

John is a member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Jefferson City. His community involvement includes providing turkeys for IC's Thanksgiving Dinner for the Needy, donating to the Samaritan Center and Salvation Army, and helping at the state track meet. He previously was involved with Mizzou's Children's Hospital, Leukemia Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation, St. Jude's Hospital and Habitat for Humanity.

John developed a love for photography when his children were born, and as they grew, he continued to photograph their sports and activities, which is when he began taking photos for Helias. John has taken and shared millions of photos of a variety of Helias activities ranging from track and field to cross country to football to the Homecoming parade and graduation.

Louis H. Vetter

Louis Vetter is the son of Francis and Anna Schrimpf Vetter. He is married to Naomi Sommerer Vetter. They have seven children: Darren Vetter, Derrick Vetter (Barbara), Gregory Vetter (Irene Kosturakis), Phillip Vetter, Tiffany Vetter (Chris Petro), Tracy Vetter (Curtis Allen) and Vincent Vetter (deceased). Louis and Naomi have five grandchildren.

He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1955. He earned his bachelor of science in building engineering, graduating with honors in 1960 from Lincoln University, and his bachelor of science in civil engineering, graduating with honors in 1962 from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Louis, now retired, was the co-founder and co-owner of Central Missouri Professional Services Inc., an engineering, surveying and soil-testing company. He was also co-founder and co-owner of CMPS Development Co. Inc., who developed numerous subdivisions in Jefferson City and Cole County, to include the design and construction of the streets, stormwater system, sanitary sewer system, as well as water supply and fire protection system. Louis is a state of Missouri retired registered engineer, P.E. and retired registered land surveyor. He is also a licensed electrician in Jefferson City and owns and manages 26 residential rental units.

Louis is a member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Jefferson City, where he served as an altar boy for eight years and as a member of the Holy Name Society. He also served on the Parish Council and volunteered to help on numerous work parties. He served six years on the Jefferson City Planning and Zoning Commission, three years on the Jefferson City Parking and Traffic Committee and is a past president of the East Side Business Association.

Louis served four years with the Lincoln University ROTC, commissioned a second lieutenant in June 1960. He spent 33 years in the U.S. Army Reserves to include two years active duty artillery air defense in Germany (1962-64) and retired in 1993 with the rank of colonel.

Louis' involvement with Helias Catholic High School includes two three-year terms on the Helias School Board, where he also served as vice president and president. He was a member of the design team for Rackers Fieldhouse and donated a complete typographic survey of the entire complex. Louis donated his time over the years for many work parties and construction projects. He also donated his tractor and tiller, backhoe and dump truck multiple times for various projects on campus.

Jeremy Winegar

Jeremy Winegar is the son of Larry and Diane Winegar. He is married to Jill Burkett Winegar. They have four children: Maggie, Grace, Lily and Burke.

He graduated from Helias High School in 1993. He attended Northeast Missouri State University and Lincoln University.

Jeremy worked in sales from 1996-2009 for Nu Way Concrete Forms Inc., and from 2009-13 he was the operations manager at Midwest Block and Brick. From 2013-19, he was vice president of sales for Midwest Block and Brick Central/St. Louis Region and is currently vice president of sales at the Midwest Block and Brick Division for Quikrete Holdings Company.

Jeremy is a member of St. Peter Parish in Jefferson City, where he has served on the School Advisory Board, on the Parish Council and as the advisory liaison to the Property and Finance Committees. He currently sits on the Education Foundation Board. His community involvement includes four years of service on the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee; past member of the Missouri Concrete Association Board of Directors, products division chair from 2013-17; East Side Business Association; Knights of Columbus; and National Concrete Masonry Association.

Jeremy's involvement with Helias Catholic High School includes volunteering to work numerous events and miscellaneous needs of the school, past member of the Helias Foundation Board of Directors, and current member and treasurer for the Helias Catholic High School Advisory Board. Jeremy has also been a youth coach for basketball and football in the PAL program.
