Flood warnings issued for two Mid-Missouri rivers

Farmers in north Jefferson City are dealing with a host of weather related issues, mostly revolving around the saturated soil and the seemingly constant rains. Now the rising Missouri River threatens that same ground as it's expected to top the levees Thursday, May 23, 2019, and flow into the fields. Some areas along Missouri Highway 94 or Mokane Road, as shown here just east of Capital Sand Plant, look more like large, shallow lakes.

The National Weather Service in St. Louis on Thursday issued two river flood warnings in Central Missouri.

Heavy rain in locations to the north and west is expected to cause the rivers to rise.

A warning is in effect for the Osage River at the Mari-Osa Campground from 1 p.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Sunday. Forecasters believe minor flooding will occur, as the river had reached flood stage of 19 feet on Thursday. The forecast calls for the river to rise to 19.7 feet by early Saturday morning and fall below flood stage Saturday afternoon.

A second warning is in effect for the Missouri River in Jefferson City, in effect from 3 p.m. Friday through 10 p.m. Tuesday. The river was just over 21 feet Thursday. Flood stage is 23 feet. The forecast is for the river to reach 24.7 feet by Sunday morning. It should fall below flood stage by Monday afternoon.
