Your Opinion: Persecution in China denounced

Dear Editor:

On June 13, the U.S. government spoke out against something terrible happening in China, the country of my birth.

The House of Representatives unanimously passed HR343 denouncing state-sanctioned organ harvesting from practitioners of the Falun Gong meditation and other prisoners of conscience.

When I heard the news, my first feeling was not excitement, but deep belief that this world is not the evil's happy land and that this world is controlled by the good people. And I feel very proud that my representative is one of those strong fighters for the good.

Congressman Luetkemeyer and five other Missouri representatives were among the 185 co-sponsors of HR343.

Before the floor vote Congressman Chris Smith from New Jersey said, 'This legislation is an important step in bringing accountability and transparency, to maybe one of the great crimes of the 21st century: the 17-year effort to eliminate [the] Falun Gong practice from China.'

The communist regime began persecuting Falun Gong in 1999 after seeing that 100 million people were practicing and believing in something other than communism. Truthfulness, compassion and forbearance are core principles of this ancient mind and body practice that swept the nation of China in the early '90s.

I hope more people can join the global effort to stop the persecution and forced organ harvesting in China and learn more at stop organharvesting.org. With the passing of HR343, I see more light at the end of the tunnel and I truly believe goodness and justice will prevail.
