Your Opinion: Poison oak misinformation

Dear Editor:

The June 19 Home and Garden section included an article, "Tips for a rash-free homestead."

This article has the potential to misinform our local public. The article written by Maureen Gilmer , who apparently hails from the state of California, shows images of "poison oak" that look a bit like aromatic sumac but nothing like its cousin that infest our yard edges and wood edges.

We don't have poison oak here. We do have poison ivy, in abundance. Information about that problem and how to treat its symptoms and control it, actually would have been helpful.

The University of Missouri, and other sources, publish all kinds of timely articles and informational publications that are pertinent to our Central Missouri locale. Use them, not some goofy and misleading article written by a non-expert from California, please.

By the way, the Master Gardener articles are very good.
