Your Opinion: Liberal bias toward gun ownership

Dear Editor:

Once again the news media confirms their ignorance, agenda and their bias towards the 2nd Amendment. The Associated Press article in Saturday's paper, conveniently carried on the front page of your Oct. 15 issue is a special kind of stupid concerning child safety.

The headline was "Accidental shootings kill a child every other day." Fact: from the Center from Disease Control 2007, there were only 54 accidental gun deaths for children under age 13. About 12 times as many children died from drowning during the same period.

More facts from the Center of Disease Control 2007: Firearm misuse causes only a small number of accidental deaths in the U.S. For example, compared to being accidentally killed by a firearm, you are:

Five times more likely to burn to death.

Five times more likely to drown.

17 times more likely to be poisoned.

17 times more likely to fall to your death.

And 68 times more likely to die in an automobile accident.

These numbers are nine years old. So, the comparison from 2007 to 2014 for all accidental deaths (includes firearm) for age 1 through 4 dropped from 9.9 percent to 7.6 percent for 2014. For age 5 through 14 it has raised some what from 3.6 percent to 5.4 percent in 2014. But for liberals, this is front page news. The death of anybody's child is a tragedy, but lets put the blame and the cure where it needs to be.

The kicker for me is the articles claim for more government and industry ways to prevent the death of this 4-year-old child that found his grandmother's weapon loaded and carelessly left out for him to find. The fault here is the parents and the grandmother, not the gun! A liberal's solution is more government control and no personal responsibility. Blame anything but the person. After all, we are all too stupid to take care of ourselves.

Sorry if this appears harsh, but the truth can be harsh. If the shoe fits, wear it.
