Your Opinion: Cigarette tax proposal opposed

Dear Editor:

Gonna be a tax to vote on those nasty cigarettes, you know. Of course the money will go for "the kids," just like the lottery and casinos did?

We all know the money will be used in other ways. This money will just be offset by other funds, become extra funds and will give the politicians a slush fund.

Then there's the fact that I am an American. We have a representative government that keeps minorities, like smokers, from getting bulldozed over by being singled out with a punitive tax. Who'll be the next target?

This vote coming up is wrong. I don't smoke, I have never smoked, but I do believe in a representative government. It's not about the tax being high or low, it's about being an American. Make the politicians in Jefferson City do their job! By just putting this on the ballot is a coward's way of passing a punitive tax on a minority of citizens. Is that the America you want to live in?

You have the right to smoke, use your right to vote, and vote NO to make them do their job.
