Your Opinion: Reckless GOP overrides vetoes

Dear Editor:

Like State Rep. Jay Barnes, State Sen. Mike Kehoe likes to pat himself and his colleagues on the back and criticize the governor. I say thank goodness the governor uses his veto pen, as this state Legislature is reckless, greedy, unethical and destructive; serving their out-sized campaign donors, big agriculture outfits and the NRA to the detriment of the citizens they are elected to serve.

We the people are endangered by the gun legislation that will take effect Jan. 1 permitting lifetime concealed carry firearms permits without either background checks or safety training. Children whose parents don't properly secure their guns, women with stalkers or abusive exes, in fact all Missouri citizens as well as visiting tourists will be in grave danger come the first of the year. Well, actually all except the legislators themselves, since they have a "No Weapons" sign posted on the Capitol door. #Hypocrisy

They continued their veto session rampage by attacking the indigent among us, inflicting onerous financial penalties upon Medicaid recipients who miss medical appointments, never mind that they are so old, sick or disabled that they are at someone else's mercy to get them to the clinic.

I could go on and on about the damages done, but I will wrap up by pointing out that in case you don't like what they are doing to you, they have put forth a constitutional amendment designed to take away your right to vote if you happen to be a woman, minority, elderly, disabled or a rural dweller.

The November election is crucial. Vote NO on Amendment 6.
