Your Opinion: Not a sign of things to come

Dear Editor:

Sept. 22 has come and gone again. This is the date that the marquee sign at the old Zestos site on Broadway, proudly states that Trappers will open.

Trappers did open - in 2014, and closed shortly thereafter, all while the sign still remains, proclaiming that Trappers is coming on Sept 22.

At this point, the Trappers sign is more of a landmark for residents and tourists to navigate by, all while providing false hope to those thinking there might be some new development at the old site.

I'm surprised this vastly outdated sign hasn't become an attraction for vandals, tempting them to rearrange letters to form other messages with the letters provided.

How many more years will the citizens of Jefferson City have to be taunted with the prospect of a new restaurant that will never come and other entrepreneurs be reminded of the perils of small business ownership? What would it take to remove the outdated message from this sign?
