Your Opinion: Fixing Obamacare with a common sense approach

Dear Editor:

It appears that President Trump may not throw out Obamacare but rather to fix it. Here is my suggestion for a common sense way to do it.

Most Americans like Obamacare. What's not to like about having no more exclusions for pre-existing conditions, no more life-time maximum, continued coverage of college-aged children and access to health insurance for everyone. What we don't like are the rising insurance premiums.

Conservative Democrats sided with the Republicans and the insurance industry to eliminate a public option from the original proposal thus eliminating competition - the way to keep premiums under control. Had the ACA had the public option the ACA would have been a wildly popular health care program, like Medicare is today. It is not too late!

Obamacare needs to be fixed. The insurance industry needs to be out of the picture all together, or there needs to be a public option (creating real competition), or there should be price controls regarding what can be charged to consumers; this seems like common sense.

Fix the insurance industry problem and you fix Obamacare.
