Your Opinion: City lacks concern for parking problems

Dear Editor:

The City of Jefferson sure does have a strange way of enticing people to do business downtown.

This morning I had a vision appointment at Eyes on Missouri at 231 Monroe St. and parked in what appeared to be a public parking lot adjacent to the building. I came out from my appointment to find a parking ticket on my vehicle. After looking all around the parking lot the only warning that I found was a relatively small and obscured sign at the street entrance to the lot which I had obviously missed. No other warning signs were located anywhere near the actual parking slots.

When I contacted Britt Smith at the city municipal building he explained that this had been an ongoing issue yet seemed disinterested in solving the problem other than placing blame on the merchant. I also told him that I would be reconsidering my interest in doing business downtown to which he expressed no concern.
