Your Opinion: How ironic can it get?

Dear Editor:

The last few days an uproar has been taking place over the Kathy Griffin video holding the Donald Trump bleeding head.

What is so ironic is that for the previous eight years, that took place on an almost weekly basis while depicting President Obama and his wife, Michelle. They were called everything from Hitler to Gorilla Face to just about anything unimaginable. Remember the rodeo clown at the state fair in Sedalia a few years ago and how President Obama was ridiculed and degraded and almost everyone chanted and cheered. And there was very little ever said about it. The Obamas (so graciously) never even mentioned it.

I think it is a real shame how low the people of this country have gotten when it comes to this country's morals. How unashamable we have become. I have stated many, many times that the office of president of the United States (the highest office in the land) should be respected and revered, irregardless of the person holding the office. Even if that person is white-black-red-or yellow. It's the office that should be respected.

Some of this disrespect can be blamed on our political leaders themselves because most of them promote this kind of disrespect. Trump himself while campaigning for president championed his cheering crowds to drag his dissenters away and "shut them up." They frequently call out their opponents, even slamming them down, causing injury, as was a recent case in Montana, and this president praised him for doing it. All that does is to promote more of these actions. There is just too may people nowadays who will resort to violence whenever someone says or does anything that they don't agree with. Too many people just have no respect. Period.
