Your Opinion: Supporting schools' proposition

Dear Editor:

I am a retired school teacher that worked at the high school. I voted "no" on the past bond issue due to the lack of vision, trust, and integrity of the past administration on a variety of subjects. Over that time, it was hard to watch the vision change in our school district to be focused on what was going on at the administrative level instead of where it used to be, which was focused on what was going on in our classroom to achieve a high level of education for our kids. Because of the philosophical change in vision, a lot of bitterness, resentment, and distrust evolved between administrators and teachers, ultimately having a domino affect on the excellence and achievement that was demanded in the classroom.

Although I love my high school and don't like change, it is an antiquated building that is overcrowded and dismally equipped for the rapidly evolving use of technology. There were many lessons that were interrupted because of some type of technological problem. That equates to a lot of loss instructional time. Also, there isn't enough gym space for all the extracurricular use for sport and nonsportsport activities!

We have a superintendent of schools, that was previously employed by our district, who saw and experienced the "Excellence in Education" that our school district had in the past in all areas, elementary and secondary, and has the vision of the level of excellence we have to get back to. He has walked into a hornet's nest, due to no fault of his own, and he is working to get lawsuits settled, trust issues resolved, and the "muck" cleaned up so we can go forward.

Although the easy thing to do is to be bitter on the progression of our schools for the past few years, it's time to get better and move forward so our kids win! Put the past where it belongs. in the past! We have a new vision and hope for healing in the community, and new benchmarks for high levels of achievement! The community will reap what it sows! It is time to sow, as a win on these propositions is a win for our community, as we invest in the most precious assets we all haveour kids!

Move forward with me and vote yes on the Propositions J & C!!
