Your Opinion: Revisit school boundaries

Dear Editor:

According to the current divisions for elementary schools to send to middle schools, and for over 20 years now, Thorpe Gordon students have been split between the two middle schools. Those living north of Stadium go to Thomas Jefferson Middle School and they are the ones living very close to the current high school, yet they would be sent to the new high school. Those living south of Stadium would go to Lewis and Clark and then the current high school, if this issue passes.

I think boundaries for the middle school students need to be reviewed and redivided. No elementary school should have their students split into two middle schools anyway. But at least currently, they are all back together at Simonsen and JCHS. With the new proposal, the students will never be back with their elementary friends. I have sons that were affected by the middle school split for Thorpe Gordon. It can be really hard for those students to adjust. Please revisit this issue and the school boundaries. It also makes no sense that students living a block from JCHS get sent to the new high school.
