Your Opinion: Luetkemeyer shilling for Trump Taxscam

Dear Editor:

Taxpayers in Kansas are not excited about a Trump Taxscam. Kansas went through five years of such a plan with Gov. Brownback. Rural schools and hospitals were closing right and left. But people with high income like Kansas basketball coach Bill Self formed an LLC to pass through his salary for lower taxes. Finally, fiscally conservative Kansas Republicans and Democrats were voted into office to reverse the devastating trend of low growth, loss of services and a declining infrastructure. Killing revenue and trying to grow the economy with tax cuts simply doesn't work.

Brownback repeatedly promised an economic miracle that never arrived. This is the nature of what national Republicans are trying to rush through on a strictly partisan vote. A major tax overhaul in America happens only every 30 plus years. It has never been attempted in such a short time span and completely by one party. It would be no better for America than the false promises that Gov. Brownback never delivered on.

As always, a few rich Americans will gain the benefits. My member of Congress, Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, like all members of our government excepting Donald Trump, file a report of their financial holdings. At the last filing on record in 2015 OpenSecrets.com reports that Rep. Luetkemeyer had a net worth of approximately $16 million. What's remarkable in the Obama years from 2013 to 2015 Luetkemeyer's assets grew from about $3.2 million to $16 million. How did he do that? Do elected officials use their offices to feather their nests?

Presently, Blaine Luetkemeyer is telling us that tax cuts will give us about $3 a day and revolutionize our lives. He reports that Missouri will gain 19,000 new jobs but he does not explain how. He says estate tax repeal for billionaire Rex Sinquefield will be beneficial for you and me. How does giving your boss a big fat pay raise assure that you will benefit.

American corporations are holding trillions of dollars and can't find a way to invest the money. Now Rep. Luetkemeyer says bringing money sheltered in overseas accounts by corporations with little or no tax on that money will unleash tremendous growth. It didn't work in the GW Bush years. Corporate salaries and shareholder dividends fattened. There was no job growth.

Kansas flimflam on a national scale is what Rep. Luetkemeyer is pushing. Hold on to your wallets.
