Your Opinion: Museum of the Bible coverage

Dear Editor:

I get disgusted with what I read when it thrusts a new wave of thought upon us by some of the media. Today, Nov. 17, is no exception! Reading the article "Museum of the Bible, built by Hobby Lobby owner, opens in DC."

The picture showing "Pro-Slavery" sets a poor tone for reading the article. In my view, this takes another shot at promoting more agitation on the subject. Doesn't this create more violence to write about? Using that photograph to depict this beautiful museum is a cheap shot considering this huge museum (430,000 square feet) is dedicated to educating people on the Bible's great history and its effects on the people. It rightfully has a small section pointing out the Slavery debate. Slavery was and is wrong, but continuously dredging it up is not the answer to solving the problem.

Second, John Fea, a historian at Messiah College in Pennsylvania, was quoted to say, the "Bible Engagement concept was popularized by the American Bible Society in the 1990s amid concern that people who owned copies of the Scriptures weren't necessarily reading them." He goes a step further, with reference to the museum's concept, that it "debunks the whole notion that this is just a history museum."

Being a professor at a religious college, he should be pleased that this is a "history museum, of the Bible," instead of sarcastically stating that "advocates for this strategy ultimately hope the Bible will inspire a desire to learn more and maybe accept Christ." Perhaps I am wrong, but it is my understanding that the intent of the History of the Bible Museum is just that, a history of the Bible! He should hope that more people would accept its teaching.

Perhaps the Greens may have been a bit pushy in their desire to educate the people with their biblical thoughts, but it is their right. Perhaps they did not consider the Jewish beliefs (1st four books of the Bible) as well as they might have. Maybe some college educators should take a better look at their own curriculum; they might find they too are not 100 percent correct!

It is time to stop second-guessing the Bible and start teaching what it says, rather than what the professor's opinions might be.

Prov 11:9-You can be ruined by the talk of godless people, but the wisdom of the righteous can save you.
