Your Opinion: Students display giving spirit

Dear Editor:

I am writing in praise of all our young citizens who have recently participated in local Parochial School Drives for the Samaritan Center. We are so impressed with the generous giving spirit of all these young students. Their aims are high and their enthusiasm is catching.

In the contest between Immaculate Conception, St Francis Xavier, St. Peter and St. Joseph and the St. Peter PSR Students we were overwhelmed with food for our families and seniors.

These children have learned well the Golden Rule and have brought their enthusiasm to the Public Forum to raise for a total of 28,182 pounds of food.

Immaculate Conception was this year's winner for the first time bringing in 9,530 pounds. The winner is based on how many students are enrolled in the school. Last year's total was 16,262 pounds so all the children in these schools nearly doubled their effort.

Now all of our families will have plenty of good food when the snow flies and be able to enjoy a bountiful Thanksgiving! St. Peter's faculty joined the children in collecting enough money to purchase 35 turkey's to go out to some of our families. We purchased 1,700 turkeys in all last year so that is the Target for this year too. With all the generosity and with everyone's help and the grace of god we will have another wonderful holiday

God bless you all, Marylyn DeFeo and staff.
