Your Opinion: NT editorial disappointing

Dear Editor:

It was with amazement that I read the opinion of the News Tribune on Nov. 25. The question immediately came to mind, "who wrote this opinion" especially after reading the excellent article from the front page on the same date explaining the need of this "small" sales tax, 1 cent on $4?

I can't imagine that there is one person in Cole County who doesn't know of a child or young person who is in a situation that this tax will help. The interviews from people working daily in the capacity of helping these children certainly explained it very well.

You questioned if this is the time to ask for this tax increase. Would you choose to wait another year or two years and deny children and teenagers the help they need now?

The individuals involved in obtaining the signatures needed have nothing to gain personally. Their goal is to help children and teenagers in need. How disappointing to have our local newspaper write an opinion that can do nothing but hurt their cause.

The important thing to remember is yes, this is a "small" tax, 1 cent on $4 which will provide at least $2.4 million dollars per year from now on contributed by citizens of Cole County to help children and teenagers in need now.
