Your Opinion: Free socialism would cost trillions

Dear Editor:

I am very concerned about our country with all the political talk about the word "free" for things we pay for now like medical care for everybody and wiping out the insurance companies in the process as well as a free college education. And doubling the federal minimum hourly wage. And establishing a minimum yearly income for every one guaranteed by the federal government. All of this would cost money and jobs. In the case of the minimum wage jobs lost and along with the entitlements, it would cost trillions of dollars.

Where would that money come from? Not by raising tax on the rich as proposed - they already pay over 90 percent of the tax in the country. If their tax is raised any more, they will stop investing in current growing businesses or creating new businesses, which create thousands of new jobs. And along with the free entitlements and would end up having to borrow more trillions over and above the $20 trillion we already owe, plus interest.

All these great ideas are major steps toward socialism, and the demise of the Capitalistic system of government which built this country into the envy of the world, where with a good idea and hard work you have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream. Socialism has failed in every country that tried it when they ran out of other people's money. All this is especially concerning when a lot of not all of our younger generation now called the millennial generation are very much in favor of this drastic change along with several presidential aspirants. We all need to let our leaders know what we think about all this before it is too late.
