Frank Rycyk LTE compares Trump's fence to the Berlin wall. Well, let us do a real comparison here. The border fence is designed to help control the flow of "illegal" immigrants, drugs and children who are being trafficked from coming in to this country. The Berlin wall was designed to imprison Berlin's own citizens and forcibly separating a city.
When it comes to people climbing over or going around the fence on the southern board, if they are caught they are detained, housed, fed, clothed, have their medical needs taken care of while their information is checked. They are either released in to this country to await a court appearance to determine if they qualify for asylum, where if a approved stay here or if not are sent back to their country of origin.
When it came to the Berlin wall there was a buffer zone around the wall that had razor wire and barricades. People were shot and killed by their own people if they made it through the barricades and approached the wall. There was no asylum, no medical care, no hearings - just death.
The comparison is nothing more than hyperbole. At no time has there ever been an event along the southern board fence that even compares with what happened in Berlin. So please let us start being intellectually honest.
