Brintle leads Lincoln women to victory

Lincoln freshman Faith Brintle came off the bench to score a career-high 28 points Monday, leading the Blue Tigers to a 67-59 win against Upper Iowa at Jason Gym.

Lincoln trailed at the end of each of the first three quarters, then outscored the Peacocks 26-15 in the game's final 10 minutes.

Brintle knocked down a 3-pointer on the opening possession of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 44, then made a jumper on the Blue Tigers' next trip down the floor for the team's first lead since early in the second quarter.

Brintle scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, hitting three 3-pointers. Her last three extended Lincoln's lead to 53-48 with 7:24 to play.

Upper Iowa would pull within two points on the next possession, but the Peacocks would shoot just 3-of-13 the rest of the game.

Lincoln made 7-of-8 free throws in the final minute to seal the win.

Upper Iowa (2-5) was ahead 12-11 after one quarter, 31-26 at halftime and 44-41 through three quarters.

Brintle was the only Lincoln player to score in double figures and also had a team-high five steals. Lajanea Kimbrough added nine points and Naomi Bryant finished with eight.

Lincoln outrebounded Upper Iowa 41-32. Kimbrough and Citlali Lopez each had nine boards for the Blue Tigers.

Blair Klostermann led Upper Iowa with 17 points.

Lincoln (3-4) plays NCAA Division I UMKC in an exhibition game at 5 p.m. Saturday in Kansas City.
