LU women fall to William Jewell

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team put four players in double figures, but it wasn't enough to save the Blue Tigers from suffering an 86-70 loss to William Jewell on Saturday.

The contest was played at Northwest Missouri State University as part of the Winstead-Reeves Classic.

Hunter Yoakum went 6-for-9 from the floor, including 3-for-5 from 3-point range to lead Lincoln with 19 points. Joining her in double digits were Angela Randall with 14 points and Kieanna Wharton and Jennifer Rosado with 10 apiece.

Yoakum and Wharton also contributed two blocks apiece as the Blue Tigers racked up nine as a team. Nesha Wright and Jaleisha Barrett also had two each.

Angela Randall led the squad with eight rebounds.

Turnovers plagued Lincoln, as the Blue Tigers had 21, compared to just 10 for William Jewell. The Cardinals scored 26 points off turnovers and also had 26 second-chance points, capitalizing on 16 offensive rebounds.

William Jewell led the entire game, jumping out to a 14-2 lead to start and taking a 47-28 edge into halftime.

The Blue Tigers fell to 1-2, while William Jewell improved to 1-1. Lincoln will close out the Classic at 1:30 p.m. today against Truman State.
