Helias cross country teams finish top three at Mexico

MEXICO, Mo. - The Helias boys and girls cross country teams each finished in the top three Tuesday in the Mexico Autumn Classic.

The girls finished runner-up to Mexico with 102 points. Mexico totaled 76 points.

The Helias boys finished third with 114 points. Mexico won the team title with 26 points, while Clark County was runner-up with 110 points.

Taylor Koelling led the Lady Crusaders with a 12th-place finish in 22:16.03. Dani Kroll finished 16th in 22:33.46, while Clair McDonald was 20th in 22:52.46.

Other runners for Helias were Lani Andrews (26th, 23:24.47), Cathorine Roehl (28th, 23:41.46), Madalynn Berkey 41st, 24:51.10) and Katherine McDonald (45th, 25:27.93)

The top runner for the Helias boys was Blake Bauer in 19th with a time of 19:03.54. Will Roehl wasn't far behind in 20th in 19:05.34.

Peyton Wright and Austin Sooter finished 23rd and 24th, respectively. Wright recorded a time of 19:15.14 while Sooter's time was 19:122.69.

Rounding out the Helias runners were Gabe Borgmeyer (28th, 19:42.96), Will Grothoff (38th, 19:58.65) and Grayson Knereschield (52nd, 21:14.47).

In JV, the Helias boys placed second with 37 points.

Jack Lear was the top Helias runner in fifth place in 19:59.01.

The Helias girls also finished second in the JV team standings.

Amy Cook finished fifth in 25:23.40 for the Lady Crusaders.

Helias will be back in action Oct. 28 for the Class 3 District 5 meet at Moberly.
