Area softball players earn all-state honors

Seven area players were honored by the Missouri High School Fastpitch Coaches Association on the all-state softball list.

Jefferson City sophomore Kara Daly made the Class 4 second team as an infielder. Daly helped the Lady Jays to an 18-9 record and their first district championship since 2015.

Helias junior Lauren Howell was one of four pitchers honored on the Class 3 all-state first team. Howell led the Lady Crusaders to a 20-6 record and a district runner-up finish, losing to state champion Mexico in the district title game.

Howell was on the all-state first team last season as well.

The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons had four players named to the Class 2 all-state first team after posting a 27-5 record and finishing third in the state.

Seniors Makenna Kliethermes and Brooke Boessen were named all-state for the second straight season. Kliethermes, a pitcher, made a repeat appearance on the first team, while Boessen, an outfielder, moved up from second team in 2017 to first team in 2018.

Junior infielder Kaitlyn Kolb and sophomore catcher Ellie Kliethermes received their first all-state honors for the Lady Falcons.

Vienna senior Jordyn Steffen was honored on the Class 1 all-state team. Steffen is a three-time all-state pitcher, making the second team each of the past three seasons.

Steffen guided the Lady Eagles to a 24-1 record and their second district championship in the past three years.
