Caitlin Anderson has brought energy and work ethic to the Jefferson City girls basketball team the past three years.

It certainly got the attention of college coaches and led her to signing a National Letter of Intent with a Division I program Wednesday.

"They really stayed on me throughout the recruiting process," Anderson said of Indiana State, a Missouri Valley Conference school. "They just kind of treated me like their own and it was really a family environment when I went on my visit."

Anderson has been a key player for the Lady Jays since her freshman year.

"Over the summer going into my freshman year, I was like, 'I really need to focus because this is something I really want to do,'" Anderson said.

And she's put in the work each year to gradually improve and earn herself a spot at Indiana State.

"Getting in the gym on your own is definitely a big one, especially after season because you can't just sit around," Anderson said. "So getting in the gym, shooting, making sure I'm staying in shape."

Anderson is part of a seven-player class for the Sycamores, with four of them being ranked in the ESPNW Collegiate Girls Recruiting Top 250 report.

In a press release, Sycamores coach Vicki Hall pointed to Anderson's explosiveness and the ability to get to and play around the rim as a 5-foot-6 point guard.

"I think as far as the speed of the game that's going to be a plus for her," Lady Jays coach Brad Conway said. "I think Caitlin's gotten better as far as her perimeter game, but I think she knows that's something she's going to have to work on a little bit more."

To add to that, Anderson mentioned the need to build more strength in preparation for college basketball.

"I know weightlifting, getting into the weight room is really important this year so I'll be prepared for next year," she said.

But before Anderson heads to Terre Haute, Ind., there's still one thing left to do as part of the Lady Jays.

"I want a state championship," Anderson said. "Ever since freshman year our goal has been to get there."
