Helias announced Friday morning Chris Wyrick will become the new head coach for the Lady Crusaders softball team.

Wyrick, who is also the head basketball coach, an assistant girls basketball coach and was an assistant football coach this fall at Helias, takes over for Dan Campbell, who resigned earlier this month after spending 18 season as Helias' softball head coach.

"We are thrilled to have Coach Wyrick heading up our softball program," Helias athletic director Tom Guinn said in a press release. "He brings a considerable amount of experience, knowledge, and proven success with him. His passion and commitment toward our school, in addition to his desire to get the best out of our athletes, will undoubtedly serve us well next fall."

Wyrick, a 1989 Helias graduate, is in his 21st season of coaching after beginning his career at St. Elizabeth. As Helias baseball head coach, Wyrick won state championships in 2000 and '01, and he also previously won a state title as an assistant coach at St. Elizabeth in 1997.

As a player, Wyrick helped the Crusaders to a state baseball championship his senior season.

"I am excited about the opportunity the Helias administration has given me to lead the softball program," Wyrick said. "Over the past 20 years the softball program has experienced much success, and I look forward to the challenge of maintaining that high level. I consider it an honor and privilege to be the next Helias softball coach."

Earlier this year, Wyrick was inducted into the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

The Helias softball team finished the 2018 season with a 19-6 record, losing to eventual state champion Mexico in the Class 3 District 8 championship game.
