Tipton girls join Lady Jays at No. 1 in basketball rankings

The Jefferson City Lady Jays have some area company atop the girls basketball polls.

While Jefferson City remains No. 1 in Class 5 in the latest edition of the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association state rankings, the Tipton Lady Cardinals have claimed the top spot in the Class 2 poll released Thursday.

Tipton is 17-0 on the season after beating Sedalia Sacred Heart 63-33 on Thursday night.

Jefferson City will take a record of 15-0 into Monday night's game at Helias in a clash of state-ranked teams. The Lady Crusaders (9-3), who haven't played since a Jan. 3 loss at Class 3 No. 1 Strafford, remain in the No. 5 spot in Class 4.

A pair of area girls teams are in the Class 3 rankings - California (11-3) at No. 8 and Blair Oaks (12-5) at No. 10. The Fatima Lady Comets (13-3) and South Callaway Lady Bulldogs (11-3) are among those receiving votes in Class 3.

The School of the Osage Lady Indians (12-2) are receiving votes in Class 4.

Also ranked No. 1 on the girls side are Walnut Grove in Class 1 and Incarnate Word in Class 4.

Two area boys teams are ranked in their respective classes.

The Blair Oaks Falcons (11-5) are No. 9 in Class 3, while the St. Elizabeth Hornets (12-3) are No. 8 in Class 1.

The top-ranked teams on the boys side are Webster Groves in Class 5, Sikeston in Class 4, Vashon in Class 3, Milan in Class 2 and Dora in Class 1.
