Boys Basketball: Father Tolton 53, Helias 48

COLUMBIA - The Father Tolton Trailblazers outscored the Helias Crusaders 12-7 in the final four-plus minutes Friday night on their way to a 53-48 victory.

Tolton led 12-7 after one quarter before Helias used a 13-4 edge in the second quarter to take a 19-16 advantage into intermission. Tolton then led 33-28 after three quarters.

Ben Cooper scored a game-high 24 points for Helias. Jake VanLoo added 10.

Beau Washer led three Tolton players in double figures with 20 points. Coban Porter and Deuce Tatum added 10 points each, all scored in the second half.

Father Tolton, ranked No. 4 in Class 3, is now 12-2.

Helias (8-7), which had a six-game winning streak snapped, is back in action Tuesday against Hickman at Rackers Fieldhouse. Helias was scheduled to face Lutheran North today in the Hall of Fame Classic in Columbia, but that event has been moved to Feb. 9 due to expected bad weather conditions.

In Friday night's JV game, Helias defeated Tolton 57-41. Damon Johanns had 14 points, while Jeff Szumigala added 13 for the Crusaders.
