Helias duo wins bass tournament

LAKE OF THE OZARKS - The team of Matthew Malmstrom and Mason Geisler won middle-school honors at the recent National Youth Fishing Association and TBF (The Bass Federation) Bass Tournament.

Malmstrom and Mason Geisler caught four fish totaling 7.98 pounds to claim the title. The Helias Fishing duo have now qualified for the Worlds Bass Finals later this year at Ouachita Lake in Arkansas as well as winning $100 for Helias Fishing.

The team also had seven boats in the high-school division at the tournament.

The top finish was the team of Beau Bondurant and Carson Brauner, who finished 12th with three fish totaling 7.28 pounds. The team of Spencer Mertens and Zach Bondurant was 14th (three fish, 7.15 pounds), while Ethan Harigon and Drew Distler were 25th (one fish, 5.26 pounds). The three teams all qualified for a tournament this summer at Pickwick Lake in Tennessee and earned a total of $400 for Helias Fishing for being in the top 10 percent of the finishers.

The team of Ethan Rackers and Jacob Andrews was 29th with two fish totaling 4.86 pounds.

A total of 283 high school teams and 54 middle school teams competed in the tournament.

Helias Fishing is back in action May 5 at Table Rock Lake.

St. E Anglers take first

LAKE OF THE OZARKS - Cody Wieberg and Gerald Luetkemeyer of the St. E Anglers from St. Elizabeth High School took first place in the National Youth Fishing Association Tournament last weekend.

Competing in the Pro Team Association portion of the series, Wieberg and Luetkemeyer weighed in five fish for 14.9 pounds to earn top honors.

The team of Zach Holtmeyer and Trey Struemph took 17th place with fish weighing in at more than seven pounds.
